Zach and Taylor in New Ulm - Fun!

Zach and Taylor visited Grandma and Dar in New Ulm this weekend - We had a great time! We went out to eat, hung out, talked, laughed, shopped, and played Scattergories! The time went way too fast - but we are thankful for the time we had together!

Look!! The grass is starting to grow!!

Less than a week later and grass is appearing! You can see the "blanket" starting to break apart. I am excited to see more grass grow! If you look close, you can see the plastic framework part of the blanket; grass will grow in each of the squares, and this will prevent soil erosion when it lies on top of the soil. Very little water is needed to make the grass grow, I have only watered it a couple of times by hand just to saturate the blanket, and it has rained on it once. Very little maintenance is needed to promote the grass to grow. Yeah!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday...

While the gifts were great, Devin had a lot of fun with the Mylar balloon. By the end of the night, it no longer floated!

I know this is a little late, but I found this great picture and had to post it!

Rocks, Bushes, and Grass Seed

Everything is done, now we just wait for the grass to grow. Today Tony and his crew finished up; they put black soil, bushes, weed blocker, and rocks in the planters and grass seed on the lawn. The "carpet" you see on the lawn is a biodegradable blanket to keep the seed moist, and there is a grid within it to help prevent erosion. By October the grass will be all grown in and as thick as our previous lawn. I don't even have to water it very much - the blanket will keep the moisture in. At the time this picture was taken, not all of the "carpet" was laid because they ran out of it. They came back a little while later to finish it. The bushes are mini bay berry and mini-evergreens. In the back by the laundry room window, they replanted the original bush that was there before the construction. An item to be added is the railing, which is on order. I need to figure out what to do with the downspout that it is not such an eye sore.
